Back to Costa del Sol Holidays

We knew that we’d love Torremolinos the moment that we got there, it was a great mix of Spanish charm, great beaches and the convenience of a holiday town. Our hotel room was on the 10th floor of a high-rise building, with an amazing sea view! After getting rid of our bags, we headed straight out and into that gorgeous Mediterranean sun! Our first port of call was to hit the beach and have a swim.  The water was surprisingly warm and the sea was gentle enough to just blissfully float about in. Afterwards, we dried off on the soft, warm sand and felt really spoiled by the perfect weather!

Strolling in the sunshine

After our laze about, we went for a quick walk along the promenade and went in search of some lunch. The place we decided on was called café fresco, we chose it because it looked straight over the promenade and sold really fresh looking food and drinks. The soups looked nice but we both fancied something cool so we got some delicious homemade sandwiches and orange juice, followed by cakes – also incredible!

We always love exploring when on holiday and knew that Torremolinos was an amazing place for parks and nature, so we walked to Jardin Botanico Molino de Inca. The park was stunning, covered in lovely springs and hundreds of palm trees and plants. We particularly liked the viewpoints around the gardens, where you could get a great look over the entire park. Once we had got our money’s worth out of the park (which wasn’t hard, it was only one Euro!) we headed into town for another look about and saw Pimentel Tower, the most iconic site in Torremolinos. We also went to the shopping area of Calle San Miguel, which had a great variety of shops and meant that we could get some nice souvenirs from our trip.

Sights & attractions

We knew about Aqualand before we went to Torremolinos, it’s the biggest water park on the Costa del Sol, and we had to go! Our favourite ride was boomerang, where you go down in a two person rubber ring, then get flung back the way you came! Kamikaze was also incredible, a 22 meter-high lying down ride where you pick up some real speed and adrenaline.

After the water park – and a bit of persuasion from me – we went to the crocodile park down the road. It was another good adventure. As you can imagine, the 8 lakes on the island were crawling with crocs, and we watched an exhibition of Big Daddy, the biggest crocodile in Europe.

What to eat

After such an active day we were really hungry. After a quick look on TripAdvisor, we decided on El Gato Lounge.  We wanted some authentic Spanish food and read that this place was great for sharing platters. The menu had foods from all over the world, as well as the Spanish classics! We were seated on the terrace overlooking the beach and it was a really special meal. For starters, we went for a salad with mayonnaise and ham, which was delicious! For our main, we decided to go full Spanish and get a tapas box to share. All of the generous dishes were amazing and there were some international dishes mixed in, but I’ll leave them as a surprise for you! We also went for a communal dessert, as we always end up sharing our puddings anyway! Like the other courses, the sweet dreams platter was amazing.

A good night out

Torremolinos has a real reputation for clubbing, and we knew that our day wouldn’t end when the sun went down. We started the night with a few drinks at Pipers, a really nice club with a live DJ playing. The craziest thing about this place was that we were stood - a little scarily - under a small plane that was suspended from the ceiling! After Pipers, we spent most of our night at the Fun Beach club; which had a swimming pool and an amazing holiday clubbing vibe! In typically crazy Torremolinos style, all of the staff were wearing swimwear, it was all a bit surreal but really exciting! The club was open until 7am and we left at about 3, which was pretty impressive for us, we’re usually the first couple to run home early for a kebab on a night out!
